Jennifer Lawrence Leaving X-Men After ‘Apocalypse’

According to MTV News, Jennifer Lawrence is leaving the X-Men franchise.

Appearing on the red carpet for her new film Serena, the actress, who portrayed the mutant Mystique in both First Class and Days of Future Past, said the upcoming film X-Men: Apocalypse will be her final appearance in the role. “It is my last one, actually,” she said, with no further explanation.

As sad as this is, according to Yahoo Movies, we all knew this day would come, right? You can’t expect a magical creature such as Lawrence to stick around forever. Plus, the film just cast Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Storm (Alexandra Shipp) and Jean Grey (Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner), which could mean there’s a new era coming. Or maybe this is the end of the road for the X-Men franchise? The word apocalypse does sound rather final, does it not?

X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled to hit theaters May 27, 2016.

What do you think? Will you miss Lawrence?
