Franchise creator Guillermo del Toro welcomed the Star Wars actor into the fold. “I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world,” del Toro said.
The movie will be based on the Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham created world, but del Toro will be producing rather than directing the newest installment. Instead, Stephen S. DeKnight (Daredevil, Smallville) will be directing.
Boyega will play the son of Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba), who appeared in the first film. Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman are both rumored to be returning.
The first Pacific Rim proved to be quite successful with both critics and fans, with most people agreeing that what it lacked in substance it made up for in style and fun. It grossed $411 million at the box office worldwide and earned a fairly positive 71% “fresh” rating on RottenTomatoes.com.Read more to see when we will get Pacific Rim 2 in theaters:
