#1. Kubo and the Two Strings (April 8)
Nominated for the Academy Award of Best Animated Film and Best Visual Effects, Kubo and the Two Strings is easily one of studio Laika’s strongest stop-motion films to date. Told in the form of a Japanese folktale, the young Kubo finds himself on a journey with a talking monkey (Charlize Theron) and a samurai beetle (Matthew McConaughey) to recover mystical artifacts that will allow him to defeat the evil Moon King. Packed with some amazing action and unequal visual effects, the tale of Kubo is one that is just as much thrilling as it is emotionally driven and beautifully eloquent in its story.
