The Scene That Made Cate Blanchett Join ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

Marvel fans are getting supremely excited for Thor: Ragnarok. As the next MCU film on the docket, all eyes are turning towards the colorful Asgardian adventure. It’s got a whole host of stellar actors involved, too. But how did Cate Blanchett wind up on board?

Cate Blanchett has won Oscars, but fantasies aren’t exactly out of her wheelhouse. Fans of Lord of the Rings are well aware of that. But it was one scene in particular that persuaded her to sign on–and it’s a scene we’ve witnessed in the trailer.

In one shot, we see Thor (Chris Hemsworth) throw his hammer at Blanchett’s character Hela. Instead of knocking her off her feet, Hela catches it and crushes into oblivion.

“That had me at ‘hello,’ actually,” Blanchett said in an interview. “I thought that was really exciting that they were prepared to destroy Thor’s power in the first few minutes. So, yeah, it’s a nice entrance.”
