It’s finally here! The trailer for Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok just came out, but it’s already making history. It’s been a couple years since we’ve had a solo Thor movie, but fans are ready and raring to go. The proof is in the numbers: the trailer for Thor: Ragnarok is Marvel’s most watched trailer in a 24 hour period.
It’s easy to see why people are excited for this one. It’s been getting a ton of hype ever since Marvel revealed that Taika Waititi would be directing it. Waititi is (or should we say “was” at this point?) a lesser known director with a knack for comedy. Sure, Marvel has always had a comedic side. But the previous Thor movies were a bit more on the serious side. Fans were anticipating this choice in direction to be a positive change.
It’s crazy because Thor went from being one of the least loved Marvel franchises to generating more hype than any other movie. In just 24 hours, fans watched the trailer for Thor: Ragnarok 136 million times. It’s not just Marvel’s most watched trailer, either. It also beat out every trailer from Disney as well, including the new Star Wars flicks.

The movie itself–not just the trailer–is also already making history. Cate Blanchett is playing a character called Hela. As you can see from the trailer, she’s a force to be reckoned with. To top it off, she’s actually the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first female villain. And it’s about time!
As Blanchett herself said, “Can you believe we’re having this conversation and it’s 2017 and we’re talking about the first female villain? It’s ridiculous.”
From the looks of it, she could be the most threatening villain Thor has had to face. Actually, scratch that. The Hulk looks like he’s putting up a heck of a fight this time around.
