For those of you who aren’t Harry Potter fans,
what’s wrong with you? here’s what you need to know about Hufflepuff. There are four houses students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry can get sorted into: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. Which house you get sorted into depends on your own personal characteristics and values.
Gryffindors are brave, Slytherins are cunning and ambitious (if not a little devious), Ravenclaws are intelligent and Hufflepuffs are, well, a little of everything. Though they have a lot of good qualities, like loyalty and friendship, Hufflepuffs don’t quite have the strong identity that the other houses have.
Eddie Redmayne is here to combat that idea. The star of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them issued a PSA in support of Hufflepuff, the house he himself belongs to.
“I’m Eddie Redmayne and I’m a Hufflepuff,” he begins, sounding straight out of an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. Then he reiterates that statement, this time adding that he’s proud to be a Hufflepuff.
He first talks about some of the negatives associated with being a Hufflepuff (“They call us boring!”) before launching into the good qualities. “But you know what? You know what I see in Hufflepuffs?” Eddie Redmayne asks. “I see loyalty. I see fierce friendship.”
As a closer, he encourages his fellow Hufflepuffs to “Be proud. Stand tall.” He then points out a few other famous Hufflepuffs (like Cedric Diggory, of course) before concluding with a hasty, “Also Hufflepuff is J.K. Rowling’s favorite house so frankly f–k you.”
You tell ’em, Eddie Redmayne.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in theaters on November 18, 2016.
